Rani Mukherjee keen to play Paro in Aur Devdas
After Suchitra Sen and Aishwarya Rai, now it seems Rani Mukherjee is quite keen to play the character of Paro in a new contemporary adaptation of Devdas. The film had been adapted from Sarat Chandra’s novel first in 1955 by Bimal Roy and then in 2002 in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Devdas. Now director Sudhir Mishra along with Pritish Nandy Communications is keen to make another version of Devdas. Rani recently had a script narration with director Sudhir and Rangita from PNC and the actress liked the new contemporary reworked script a lot.
A source claims “Rani loved the way Sudhir has etched out the character of Paro and the manner in which he had reworked the story.” While Rani is keen to play Paro and is working out her dates, the role of Devdas will be played by actor Shiney Ahuja. However Sudhir Mishra has supposedly incorporated an element of politics as well as Shakespeare’s Hamlet into his contemporary Devdas. The film may be titled ‘Aur Devdas’ and is set to begin around August.
So will Rani be a better Paro than Ash who has also essayed the role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas? Recently there were rumours of Rani indulging in smoking, but sources claim that the rumours are untrue and that in fact Rani will soon be doing an anti-smoking campaign. Rani is also tired of the loose talk surrounding her engagement and affair with Aditya Chopra. According to her friends the actress has preferred to keep silent on the issues as they are completely baseless, but now she feels that her silence is being misconstrued and the media is taking advantage of it. Rani will soon be seen in Yash Raj film Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag where she will be essaying the role of a girl who turns into a prostitiute. She will be seen opposite Abhishek Bachchan in the film with whom she shares amazing on-screen chemistry.
