The chances a fourth instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise becoming a reality have been given a boost by the news that actor Johnny Depp has agreed a bumper pay deal.

The star, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow, has been promised a minimum of £21 million for his part in the new movie On Stranger Tides.

It will see Depp secure one of the biggest pay packs of all time for a single film, elevating him above the likes of Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson.

If the movie is as big a hit as the first three instalments, Depp stands to gain even more pirate gold - with Disney able to offer such a deal due to the absence of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley from the wage bill.

The Brits will not return for the fourth movie, although Geoffrey Rush will return to play Jack Sparrow's old adversary Captain Barbosa.

Brits wishing to explore the Caribbean for themselves could have their own adventure aboard a luxury charter yacht, such as the duel-hulled El Dorado sailing ship, which sleeps up to eight guests.
